I think my biggest hobby is wanting things, which is fueled by my other hobbies of reading magazines, window shopping, actual shopping, and reading message boards dedicated to fashion and beauty. It's a vicious cycle. I have clothes in my closet with the tags still attached. I have clothes that I love but rarely wear because I have so much else going on. I have over a hundred pairs of shoes. I've tried giving things away, but it just results in me buying more - no net gain, but no net loss either. It's really just out of control.
Here is my challenge. 365 days without shopping or eating out. My challenge is based on the rules designed for Spend Free in 2010 Challenge. There was a definite sigh of relief when I realized that Netflix and happy hour were excepted from the challenge. I will not be keeping a tally of “I REALLY WANTED BUT DIDN’T BUY…” items as quite frankly, keeping count would probably end up being a full time job in my case.
Here, I will chronicle my temptations, falling off the wagon, climbing back on the wagon, tears of sheer frustration, new frugal hobbies, money saving tips, and lessons learned along the way. Wish me luck!
